Homemade Cherry Syrup and Cherry Limeade

When life gives you Northwest cherries, you make homemade cherry syrup and Cherry Limeade! These sweet, ruby red cherries are excellent in a refreshing mocktail. This recipe teaches you to make a fun cherry syrup to enjoy for the rest of cherry season and store in your fridge for months ahead. In addition to using the cherry syrup for the limeade, you could also add it to various cocktails in place of regular simple syrup, as well as drizzle it on ice cream!

Here’s how you make the syrup: Warm the water and sugar over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has dissolved. Add the halved cherries, and steep for an hour at room temperature. Transfer to a mason jar and store in the fridge. Keep the cherries in the syrup—they make a great garnish! Once you’ve made and chilled the syrup, make HOMEMADE CHERRY LIMEADE: Pour the lemon-lime soda, lime juice, and cherry syrup over crushed ice, and stir.
